What Standards and Test Reports Can Cable Buyers Request?
A credible cable order links the product designation to a defined standard and test plan. Buyers should understand what each document proves and whether it applies to the exact cable being supplied.
Standards Form a System
A cable may reference a construction standard plus separate test standards for conductor resistance, flame propagation, smoke or halogen gases. IEC 60502-1 is commonly used for certain extruded power cables, while other cable families use different standards.
Routine and Sample Tests
Routine tests are performed on manufactured lengths as required by the applicable standard. Sample tests examine selected production samples or dimensions. Typical checks include conductor resistance, voltage testing and dimensional verification.
Type Tests
Type tests demonstrate that a cable design can meet specified performance requirements. A historical report should be checked for construction, size range, materials and standard relevance to the current order.

How to Check Whether a Report Applies
