What Should Be Checked Before Shipping Cable Orders?
Pre-shipment verification should prove that the cable, lengths, drums and documents match the approved order before the container leaves the factory. A clear checklist reduces disputes and site delays.
Cable Identification
Check cable model, voltage, size, core identification and printed marking against the purchase order. Confirm sequential metre marks where specified and record drum serial numbers.
Tests and Visual Inspection
Review required routine test results and inspect sheath condition, cable ends and drum winding. Test scope must follow the applicable standard and agreed inspection plan.
Drums and Container Loading
Confirm length, net weight, gross weight, drum dimensions, end fixing and protective wrapping. Drums should be restrained against movement and oriented for safe unloading.
Shipping Documents
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Bill of lading instructions
- Certificate or test-report package
- Certificate of origin when required
- Drum list and packing photographs
- Destination-specific marks and declarations
Build a Drum-by-Drum Record
For each reel, link drum number, cable model, actual length, gross weight, routine-test record and packing photograph. This makes receiving checks and any later claim much faster than relying on a single order-level certificate.
- Photograph both cable ends and drum label.
- Check metre marking where specified.
- Confirm container restraint before sealing.
Information to Confirm

- Routine test and inspection records
- Drum numbers, lengths and weights
- Cable-end seals and sheath condition

Engineering note: Define inspection rights and acceptance criteria in the purchase order, not after production is complete.
