Cable Factory Testing and Pre-Shipment Inspection

Inspection should be planned around the cable standard and purchase specification. Testing cannot compensate for an unclear order, but it can verify key electrical, dimensional and identification requirements before shipment.

Incoming and In-Process Control

Controls may include conductor material checks, strand count, insulation extrusion monitoring, spark testing and dimensional measurements. Relevant controls depend on product construction.

Finished-Cable Tests

Typical standard-dependent checks include conductor resistance, voltage withstand, insulation resistance, dimensions and visual marking. Test voltage and acceptance criteria must come from the applicable standard.

Witness Inspection

A buyer or third party can witness agreed tests, select drums and review records. Define notice periods, sample selection and retest rules in the order.

Limits of Inspection

A brief final inspection does not reproduce every type test or prove decades of service. Supplier qualification, process control and correct design remain important.

Inspection Should Follow Risk

For a large feeder order, conductor resistance, dimensions, voltage tests and length traceability may be hold points. Repeating a visually impressive test that does not address the main failure risks adds cost without equivalent assurance.

Tie every test to a requirement.
Define sampling before the inspector arrives.
Record equipment calibration status.
