EV Charging Cable Selection Guide

EV charging cable combines power conductors with control or communication functions and frequent handling. The cable must match the charging equipment, connector, current, environment and destination-market requirements.

Charging Duty

State charging mode, voltage, phase and continuous current. DC fast-charging assemblies can have larger conductors and thermal-management considerations.

Handling and Environment

Users repeatedly coil, drag and step near charging cable. Flexibility, low-temperature behaviour, abrasion, oil, sunlight and water exposure should reflect the installation.

Cores and Connector

Power, protective earth, pilot and communication conductors must match the charging standard and connector. Cable outer diameter and flexibility affect assembly design.

Compliance

Regional product approvals and charging standards differ. Confirm destination and certification before tooling or bulk production.

Evaluate the Handled Assembly

Users experience the cable together with the connector. Weight, flexibility, bend recovery, surface temperature and strain relief affect safety and usability, so a conductor-only comparison is incomplete.

Check continuous charging temperature.
Test flexing at the lowest service temperature.
Match pilot and communication conductors to the charging system.
